The Substance Use Risk Education (SURE) Project is a series of studies designed to evaluate brief interventions to reduce risky drinking by college students. Approximately 4 in 10 college students drink alcohol in a pattern that increases their risk of negative consequences, such as of academic, interpersonal, and health-related problems. This research involves identifying and recruiting students who are at-risk for problems, and randomly assigning student participants to single-session motivational interventions or control conditions. All participants are followed up for one year to evaluate the effects of their experiences with the Project on later drinking behavior and related consequences.

Funding for the SURE project is provided by The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Investigators and staff are affiliated with the Center for Health and Behavior, within the Department of Psychology at Syracuse University. Collaborators include Division of Student Affairs and Office of Residence Life.

The SURE project has an opportunity for an undergraduate intern (Sophomore, Junior or Senior). Please download the PDF for details.
